The Best MMA Shorts

The Best MMA Shorts

Training for MMA requires a lot of kicks and knee movements. It is important to find shorts that fit you well and can also move along with your body. As with other MMA equipment, the shorts that you wear will need to fit within the MMA style and will be suited for this particular combat sport. These shorts are longer than others and must contain a great amount of flexibility. Other options are available for fighters that do not care for the MMA style of shorts that are used. Two other styles that you may want to consider are the Muai Thay and the Vale Tudo. Compression shorts may also suit your needs and these may contain a built-in groin cup.

#1 Bad Boy Legacy II Fight Shorts

Not only are these shorts extremely comfortable, but the grip fabric on them continues to remain very effective even when the shorts themselves get wet which means sweat will not be a problem. The fabric on the shorts is also very durable and thick, and the shorts also possess an elastic waist, non-slip inner waistband, and a drawstring. After wearing these shorts for a few years, they certainly won’t look like they’re brand new; however, they also won’t have any rips, piling, or loose threads that you will have to deal with either which is a big plus. Perhaps the biggest downside which really comes down to personal prefrence is the feeling that these shorts contain a bit of excessive fabric, although most people don’t view this as being too much of an issue.

Pros:

+ Amazing Construction and Build

+ Flawless design that leaves room for sponsors

+Can be washed multiple times and still look and feel flawless

Cons

–Cant Find Any faults with these shorts

#2 CLINCH GEAR MMA Fight Shorts

The company Clinch Gear has been around in the fight game for a while and makes quality MMA Gear. The material on these shorts is both durable and thick while at the same time, also being rather stretchy in the leg area which means that mobility will not be an issue come fight time. The inseam also contains a ProPerformance stretch panel that leaves you with more options. The most notable feature of these shorts is said to be the Guardlock inner grip waistband, as well as the slim cut of the legs of the shorts. These shorts also don’t restrict any movement despite the fact that they are slimmer than most other mixed martial arts shorts on the market. The shorts also leave room for you place your sponsors.

Pros:

+Velcro is tight and will not get loose during a fight
+ Construction is top notch and is built to last

Cons

– Finding the right size can be tricky

– Finding a placement for sponsors on the shorts can be tricky

#3 Tapout 4 Way Fight Shorts

Tappet is the first company that comes to mind when you think of MMA Gear. These lightweight and comfortable shorts contain both a side slit and leg width that allow for unlimited leg and hip movement. Furthermore, the combination of the Velcro hook-and-loop closure and the drawstring ensures that the shorts will always stay in place while you are training. Those who have purchased these particular shorts have noted that they have held up very well over a number of years.

Pros:

+ Best Bang for the buck shorts in terms of value and product

+ Construction quality is top notch

+ Strap on the waist will hold up during grappeling

Cons

Shorts are very baggy which may be troublesome for grapplers

-Design leaves little room for sponsorss

#4 Hayabusa Mizuchi Fight Shorts

These shorts are among the most highly recommended on the market today thanks to their comfort and overall light weight. Huyabusa  has been manufacturing MMA Gear for quite some time now and I am big fan of their MMA Gear. These shorts contain pockets on the inside, as well as stretch panels on both the inner and outer legs. The shorts feel very silky to the touch and soft against the skin. The only problem I find with these shorts is that when they are worn for long periods of time, some piling and loose stitching can occur. Additionally, these shorts also do not contain a drawstring which many fighters like.

Pros:

+ Priced very good for what is offered

+Velcro is tight and will not become loose

Cons

– The shorts themselves feel rigid

-Haybusa design leaves little room for sponsors

#5 Sprawl MMA Fusion Fight Shorts

Sprawl is another company that comes up when you look at companies that manufacture MMA Gear.  The shorts feel great especially when I grapple. The material is also fairly durable and should last you quite a while. For individuals who are taller and leaner, the material of these shorts can be stretchy and light, but there may actually be too much of the material in the leg area. One of the biggest downsides I found with these shorts is that the material would some time to the mat. Also, whenever the shorts got wet due to sweat, the overall gripping would lose its integrity.

Pros:

+Very good shorts construction

+The shorts fit perfectly and are not baggy or to tight

Cons

– Virtually no room for sponsors due to shorts logo

-Price is fairly high for what is offered
